RESEARCH GENRE

RESEARCH FOR ANCILLARY TASKS

GENRE OF FILMS AND WHAT THEIR POSTERS DO TO CONNOTE THAT.

romance-

In this film poster we can defiantly tell that it is a romance. The poster shows the 2 main characters, which we can tell are the couple that is in love. They look happy and are smiling at each other and are  close together, about to kiss. This represents a young, happy couple that are simply in love. This gives away the genre on its own. We are instantly drawn in. The women is beautiful and the man is handsome and the light behind them reflects their love and beauty perfectly for a romantic film. The page layout is simple, with the couple in the front and no clear sense of setting at all. The title is layered over the top which is the name of the film which is bold and a font. The names of the couple are at the top which are pink, showing femininity and love and are also easy to read. There is a quote also that says inspired by true events, which is additional information that the audience might be interested in. Even though their is no release date, there are credits at the bottom which show some technique and the creator has also used the rule of thirds in the layout. Lastly there is also a Facebook page and website, which is typical of posters now a days.

Thriller-

Shutter island is one of the best thrillers that I have seen. We  can see from this photo that it defiantly is a thriller. The dark tones of and lighting of the whole thing gives that away to the audience. The poster shows Leonardo dicaprio alone, in the dark, holding a match, with a serious face expression that is looking directly into the audience. We are instantly thinking about,' what's the island' 'what's he doing there'. Thrillers typically want the audience to question things, because it means to find out the answers they have to watch the film. Leonardo is alone and so is the island, which connotes a sense of lonely and desolate area, that is unreachable. The title of the film is in bold lettering, with a silver tone on it, almost like shutters, which could give away the plot, for example, someone being shut in or shut out. Leonardo's name is smaller than this but above it, which could again show that it is him that is being shut out. We see at the bottom of the page in red a quote of someone that as watched the film, these are put on posters so that the audience can see that it is a good film and is worth a watch. It is one of  2 bright parts about the entire poster. Which shows they wanted it to stand out. The fire is the other only bright part. Which is only their to show Leonardo's face emerging from the darkness. There are credits above the name of the actors and that is it.  This is a amazing poster also.

sci-fi-

This is a typical example of a sci-f poster. Many posters like this have a theme. The main character is the biggest photo in the poster and the second main character has the second biggest photo and the position of the love interest is in the lest of the poster. This suggest importance and a hierarchy almost. Most sci fi films have a threat in the top corners of the posters. Which clearly show something bad is going to happen within the film. There will always be a lurking threat witin the film and always looking over the goodies shoulders. Until they are dealt with. The colours are cold colours witin the poster and it reflects the technology and space like genre. Such as blues, blacks ecy. It appeal to the audiences more, who like this specific genre.

Action-
Hitman is a developed game, that has been turned into a movie. The name of it gives it away that it is an action film. This poster is a close up image of the main character. close ups help us establish who the main character is striate away. This is more affective when the main character is played by a well know actor or actress and some audience will just see it because of that reason. The background image shows that it is a city setting and gives a more interesting view on what the audience might expect to happen. It gives a flavour to the film. The main image however is that alluring that nothing takes the attention away from it. Also the gun is in the foreground which suggests that the gun is a big part of the film. It has a gleaming silver outline which could mean the importance of the image is being shown.  The main characters eyes are full of evil and focus, almost sinister. They are really blue, and colourful however, this may also allure women to watch this film. The costume of the main character is a ordinary suit, giving the character a dominant and sophisticated look. He also looks powerful because he is in the front, in a suit with a gun. The information at the bottom is places so that the films title is red, bold and easy to read. Red matches the tie, the women's dress and the colour of the text. Showing its a important colour. It stands out over the dark background. The text of the credits is used regulary in film posters this looks really professional. The poster shows the release date which is important and which again is in red. showing how important it is

Introduction to A2- short films

Blog task 1 - short films

I am charlotte hall, a student at prior pursglove college in guisbrough, who I studying media as one of my courses. I have began this blog to keep an update on how I am doing throughout the year. Throughout the year I will be learning about short films and the development of one, and will be creating one also in a few months time, I will be then writing an exam about some other topic for this course, and hopefully will then progress onto university.

This is spin. It is a short film about a man using his music (decks) to stop bad things from happening from the people across the street. I rate this film a 5/10. It was a bit boring due to the fact it was repeating the same things with opening the briefcase ect. But overall it was good to watch. I particularly liked the rewinds. You could tell from the film that It would have taken a lot of editing and going over things to make the rewinds possible and to change every time but over all it could of been better, but it was okay.

This is Telling Mark, a story about a group of friends who try to distant themselves from a man. We don't know the idea behind what is going on at first, we just think the friends are being weird. We see from the use of the lighting that the mood changes, when the gingery women, states that his wife is not their but in fact the car crash he had, she was in the passenger seat and her and the baby had died. he comes to the realisation of this, and the dark room lightens. I rate this film a 7/10, because I like the way its built up, and shows how the mood changes. You could tell from the film that I was thought about cleverly and yet was quite simply filmed with not that much of a varies of shots.

This is inside. It is s a short film, about a mental patient that has loads of alter egos, in his head. He has them speaking for him and makes him go insane, it talks about his life and how he may be getting let out. At first we suspect he is talking to the women nurse about what's going on. But we realise that in the end, the women is also in his head to. The man who walks in, at the end is the actual nurse not the women. She is also in his head, which is how he can speak to others and shout. I rate this film a 8/10/ because even though it is short, its cleverly done ,with all the voices and the women and man at the end. This film is done really good, from when the insane man gets out of his cell and we can see the people at the sides of him before he goes into the room.

I belive people enjoy short films, because it shows a range of creativity that can be shot into a film that is no longer sometimes than 5 minuites. It shows skills and different arangements in just a short amount of time.'I think this is a great short film ,as it has a lot of excitement even though its only on for  minutes. I rate this a 8 1/2 out of 10.
